And Good Night

From talks to demonstrations, surrounding events like the various exhibitions and mobile press demonstrations to simply talking with artists about their work and techniques, the fair covered a lot of ground. The diversity of book arts was on display, and embodied through vastly different processes, materials, themes, and styles. For some attendees, this weekend was their first introduction to the field. The fair provided the newcomer a way in, a connection or starting point from which to explore this art form in all its interpretations. Whether that initial bond was to a traditional fine press or experimental book, to one with spray painted or handset letterpress text, 2-D or with components engineered to pop-up, xeroxed or watermarked editions, to those with pages of commercial or handmade paper or sewn fabric, to bindings of leather or glass, discussions on inspiration and creative process were initiated. Stories were shared, and magic was witnessed with the turn of a page.
